Site Kit allows you to easily connect with Google Ads and place your Ads Conversion ID on your website, or create a new Ads Campaign. More information on Google Ads can be found here.
Setup
To set up Ads for your site, go to Site Kit > Settings > Connect More Services > Set up Ads.

You may also notice a banner on the main Site Kit dashboard that allows you to start Google Ads set up. Click on Set up Ads to begin, or click Maybe later to dismiss the notice on the dashboard.
Once you’ve initiated Google Ads setup, you can choose to create a new Google Ads account and campaign, or connect an existing Google Ads account. See below sections for both.
Set up a new Ads account
To set up a new Google Ads account, click on the Start setup button.
If you have WooCommerce installed and activated, you will see a popup banner notifying that you can use the Google for WooCommerce plugin as opposed to Site Kit to set up or connect Google Ads. To use Google for WooCommerce, see the related section below. To use Site Kit, click on Continue with Site Kit and follow the steps below.
If you are already using WooCommerce and Google for WooCommerce is connected, a prompt will appear asking whether you wish to Create another account, which will start the Ads account creation process within Site Kit, or View current Ads account, which will open the Google for WooCommerce dashboard.
Sign into your Google account and click on Get started.
Note that if your progress gets interrupted at any stage when connecting Google Ads, you can complete setup by visiting Site Kit > Settings > Complete setup for Ads
Add your business name and click on Next to proceed.
On the next screen, you’ll see a preview of your site. From here you can preview your site on both mobile and desktop. Click on Next to proceed.
Next, you can choose your primary conversion goal for your campaign. Selecting your goal will help Google measure what you are looking to achieve.
You can find out more about each Google Ads campaign goal by visiting the related guide on the Google Ads website.
Click on Next once you’ve selected your preferred choice.
The goals available for selection may vary. The screenshot below demonstrates goals if WooCommerce is already activated. For some goals you may need to define a path where the goal can be measured.
On the next screen, you can create your ad. Many of the fields will be pre-populated with suggestions based on the content of your site. You can preview how your ads may appear based on the headline and description you submit from the Ad Preview section alongside the fields.
Once you’re happy with your ad details, click on the Next button.
On the next screen, you can add images to accompany your ad. To do so, click on the + New image button for the main images, and the + button for the logo image.
You’ll need to select two high quality images, one rectangular and one square, with dimensions of at least 600 x 314 pixels. You will also need to select a logo with dimensions of at least 128 x 128 pixels. If you select images larger in size to these dimensions, you can crop them automatically after selecting them.
Once your images and logo are selected, click on Next to proceed.
Next, you can select your preferred search terms. These are search terms related to your site and terms which help users find your site. There will be some terms automatically selected based on the content of your site, under the Selected terms section. You can remove any of these suggested terms by clicking on the X icon next to the term.
You can add new terms by selecting the + New keyword theme option, or you can add some additional recommended terms from the Suggested additional terms section, by clicking on any preferred term.
When you’re happy with the selected terms, click on the Next button to proceed.
On the next screen you can define in which geographical area your ads should be shown. You can input an address, or select a location by submitting a zipcode. You can also use the distance selector to display ads from a defined distance from the location you select. Locations may include countries, areas within a country, and a radius around a location that can include places of interest. After selecting your region, click on Next to proceed.
On the next screen, you can set your budget for this campaign. To do so, select one of the three suggested amounts, or enter your own budget.
Click on Next to proceed.
After setting your budget, you can review your ad campaign with the information you selected. You can edit any of the different sections by clicking on the pencil icon next to each section. You can also see a preview of your ads using the Ad Preview section.
If your campaign looks good and you’re happy to proceed, click on Next.
After submitting your campaign details, you will need to set up your billing information. Read the Google policies by clicking on the Google’s policies link, and tick the checkbox to confirm you comply. Click on Next to proceed, where you’ll be taken to a Google Ads page in a new tab.
Next, you can enter your payment details. If eligible, you may also see an Introductory offer highlighting any promotions available to you.
To complete your payments profile setup, follow the steps in this Google Ads guide. When you’re finished, click on Submit to complete the setup of your Google Ads campaign.
You’ll see a congratulations notice to confirm that you have successfully submitted all of the required details. You can now close this window and return to the Site Kit dashboard.
Back on the Site Kit dashboard page, you’ll see a notice to inform you of the status of your Google Ads campaign. Your Ads Campaign will likely be in a review phase. This generally does not take long to complete and you’ll receive further updates and notifications via email. You can click on the blue Close button to exit the Ads set up process and return to the Site Kit Ads setup flow at any time to continue setting up and finalizing your campaign once your campaign is approved.
If your campaign is already approved, you can click on the Continue button to proceed and exit the Ads set up process.
Setup – if you already have WooCommerce installed and activated
If you have WooCommerce installed and activated, when attempting to set up Google Ads, a popup will appear to inform you that you can use the official Google for WooCommerce plugin to connect your site with Google Ads. This can be used as an alternative to using Site Kit, and it provides a more dedicated WooCommerce integration.
Click on the Use Google for WooCommerce button to be directed to the plugin page in the WordPress plugin repository. From there you can install and activate the plugin. After doing so, you can follow the steps within the plugin to connect your site with Google Ads. Alternatively, you can follow the steps on the official WooCommerce documentation page.
If you prefer to use Site Kit to connect your site with Google Ads, you can click on the Continue with Site Kit link and follow the steps above.
If you are already using WooCommerce and Google for WooCommerce is connected, a prompt will appear asking whether you wish to Create another account, which will start the Ads account creation process within Site Kit, or View current Ads account, which will open the Google for WooCommerce dashboard.
Connect an existing Ads account
If you already have a Google Ads account and you wish to track conversions, you can enter your Conversion Tracking ID.
If you’re using the Google for WooCommerce plugin and you have an Ads account linked via the plugin, we do not allow the same conversion ID to be used for manual Ads setup within Site Kit as it may result in inaccurate measurement of your Ads campaign conversions.
After entering your Conversion ID, click on the Complete manual setup button. After doing so, you’ll be directed back to the Site Kit dashboard, where a success banner will appear.
You can view and edit your Conversion Tracking ID from Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Ads.
Settings
Conversion tracking ID: You can view and edit your Conversion Tracking ID from Site Kit > Settings > Connected.
Enhanced conversion tracking: You can enable/disable enhanced conversion tracking from the Ads settings. Note that if you enable/disable the toggle here, you will also be doing this for the same setting in your Analytics module. More information on enhanced conversion tracking can be found here.
Disconnecting Ads
To disconnect the Ads module, go to Site Kit > Settings > Connected Services > Ads > Edit and select Disconnect Ads from Site Kit. When choosing to disconnect Ads, you will be presented with the following message.
The message explains that disconnecting the Ads module for your site will mean that you no longer have access to the tagging necessary for your Ads campaigns to work and there will be no conversion tracking for your Ads campaigns.
